The company operates in the electric power industry, manufacturing electric motors, electrical equipment, machinery, and automation systems with 14 factories across Asia and employees 4,000+ people. Additionally, SHIHLIN ELECTRIC is a Global Joint Venture with Mitsubishi, specializing in OEM and ODM production for world-class customers such as Tesla, BMW, Toyota, and others. The main industries of SHIHLIN ELECTRIC are automotive equipment, gear switches, and brake systems, electrical systems, factory automation, and engineering systems.

The Challenge!    

The production process of SHIHLIN ELECTRIC involves the complex assembly Semi-Finished Goods (SFG) in large quantities. Therefore, it is nessessary to have a strictly quality control process and complete Product Resume to meet the requirements of globally brand customers. The system must be able to thoroughly trace back the entire production process. The main issues before implementing the ciMES system include: 

  • Current system is a small-sized MES (Manufacturing Execution System) that cannot support complex production processes and record data for many quantity of Semi-Finished Goods (SFG).  

  • Can not make standardize SFG inspection, such as the Stator.  

  • Missing data during production due to systems is not link within the organization.  

  • Can not control Bills of Materials (BOM) process.  

  • Can not check and monitoring real-time of Quality Control (QC) processes.  

  • Can not integrate with the current ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, effect to production cost calculations.

After using ciMES  

The company SHIHLIN ELECTRIC has selected the following modules: 

  1. Work in process (WIP)  

  1. Materials Management System (MMS)  

  1. Quality Control (QC) & Statistical Process Control (SPC)  

  1. Report and Dashboard  

  1. ERP Integration 

The company has implemented the system all manufacturing throughout Asia, but implementation has been carried out at only two locations: Taiwan and China. For other factories, SHIHLIN ELECTRIC has utilized the consulting services of ARES for a period of 30 days to provide guidance on system usage. The implementation has been done in-house due to the presence of a team of engineers who quickly grasp the system and can enhance production efficiency as follows:   

  • Control complex production processes to adhere accurately to the specified procedures. 

  • Standardize the production of Stators entirely. 

  • Control materials from the production of Semi-Finished Goods (SFG) through assembly line such as Lot#, Serial#, SFG#, up to assembly with Motor Serial# tagged at every step. 

  • Connect QC machines to the ciMES system through IoT for real-time data viewing. Immediate problem resolution is possible upon detection. 

  • Accurate cost calculations according to the production process. 

  • Record Product Resume data, enabling for traceability at every step. Customers can verify whether the products were genuinely manufactured by the company. Additionally, warranty periods can be checked. 

The ciMES system enhances efficiency in the factory by seamlessly connecting and controlling all production process. Also allows managers and supervisors to easily monitor and control the work of employees and helps to maintain product standards according to specifications. Additionally, it consolidates production data into one system, ensuring accurate and continuous record-keeping. Significantly boosts efficiency and confidence in motor production within this facility.
